Meyer Aquascapes Water Feature

From a two-person hot tub to a crystal-clear pond surrounded by rocks and waterfalls, Dan Meyer’s water feature design completely transformed a Cincinnati back yard.

From a two-person hot tub to a crystal-clear pond surrounded by rocks and waterfalls, Dan Meyer’s water feature design completely transformed a Cincinnati back yard. Possibly the largest residential water feature in Cincinnati, the pond project morphed from a simple yard enhancement to a complete remodel of the house, which sits on 4 acres at the end of a private drive.

The $350,000 project also features 150 tons of boulders and 300 tons of 8-inch ledge rock.
The biggest challenge that the crew faced was the winter weather, including several storms. After a heavy snowstorm in December, which dumped a foot of snow, the crew had to abandon the project for three weeks.

Despite the weather delays, the crew was able to create an oasis that represented the homeowners’ request: the hot tub, a 5-foot-deep pond and seven waterfalls that cascade throughout, natural bridges for people to walk over streams and a complete outdoor kitchen with a built-in barbecue.

The homeowners wanted a place to entertain guests, so the crew built a patio that overlooks the pond and a 120-foot-long stream. Stepping stones line the water feature so people can walk along and listen to the sounds of the cascading water. Finishing touches included the landscaping, which features a heavily planted garden.

The homeowners can enjoy viewing their pond from all areas of their home.

Views of the pond, which took 3,000 hours to build, can be enjoyed from all areas of the house, Meyer said. The project began in August 2005 and was completed near the end of February 2006. The best part of the project was the customer’s openness to suggestions and ideas from the designers.
