Exotic Aquatics of Redlands, Calif., is hosting a pond build and seminar designed to combine traditional water garden and koi pond building techniques, as well as allow the general public to attend the pond-build portion of the event.

Exotic Aquatics of Redlands, Calif., is hosting a pond build and seminar designed to combine traditional water garden and koi pond building techniques, as well as allow the general public to attend the pond-build portion of the event. Scheduled for Dec. 2-4 at Exotic’s headquarters, the event will begin with a day of joint and separate classroom seminars presented by Eric Triplett, owner of Exotic and related construction business The Pond Digger, and Kent Wallace of Living Water Solutions in Las Vegas.

Classroom topics will include pond design and construction (including pre-filtration, aerators, UV filters, external pumps, settlement tanks, bead filters and retro-fitting existing ponds), bottom drains, sales, website development and marketing. The day will end with an open forum Q&A session at a local restaurant.

The next two days will encompass a hands-on pond construction seminar led by Triplett, Wallace and Keith La Framboise of PondBuilder and featuring PondBuilder products. The first day will focus on plumbing and equipment, including installing an aerated bottom drain, hiding a UV filter into the landscape and installing an external pump. The final day will focus on aesthetics, including waterfall construction, edge treatments, plantings and photographs.

Triplett is inviting the general public to attend the construction so that potential pond buyers can better understand what is involved in buying and installing a pond. He believes that pond consumers have shifted from impulse buyers to “discerning” buyers interested in value. These discerning buyers will pay top dollar for a pond, but expect to understand the process and receive value for their money, according to Triplett.
