| This display garden ranked as the favorite among the 30,000-some people attending the Rhode Island Spring Flower and Garden Show in February. | Tranquil Water Gardens of Cumberland, R.I.; Earth and Water of Lincoln, R.I.; and Briggs Nursery of North Attleboro, Mass. earned the 2009 Rhode Island Spring Flower and Garden Show’s People’s Choice Award for their jointly constructed “Tropical Paradise Found” display garden. “We wanted viewers to feel as if they had just stumbled upon an ancient Mayan ruin,” said Craig Marciniak of Tranquil, which created the garden’s 14-foot-high waterfall that cascaded over a replicated 32-foot-long Mayan ruin.
Joe Mack of Earth and Water created a large lagoon for the display, with multiple waterfalls and stream beds. In addition to hundreds of tropical plants, Gary Briggs of Brigg’s Nursery supplied a newly restored 1957 Land Rover to the display.
The companies built the display in three and a half days. The 2,000-square-foot display included 30 yards of boulders, 75 cubic yards of mulch and 120 hay bales.
