Kodama Koi Farm of Miliani, Hawaii, postponed its second Kodama Koi Academy seminar to September 2009. Specific dates and location are still to be determined. The website did indicate, however, that it will take place in the Northeast.
Kodama Koi Farm held its first Kodama Koi Academy seminar on June 27-28 in Tampa Bay, Fla. The two-day intensive program was open to 25 professional dealers and koi hobbyists. Certifications were issued upon completion of the program.
Mamoru Kodama, founder and chairman of Miyoshiike Co. Ltd., taught about the four major Japanese koi varieties: kohaku, sanke, showa and shiro utsuri, covering history, breeders and appreciation. Kodama started the master class program to share what he has learned during his 45 years of experience with Japanese koi. He said the academy helps fulfill his goal to spread the beauty of Japanese koi throughout the United States.
"This country is big," Kodama said. "To promote Japanese koi, we need to have more quality professionals, but there is no place where dealers or potential dealers can learn koi. To realize the dream, starting Koi Academy is a must."
The academy costs $140 for koi club members and $200 for professionals, hobbyists and koi club member couples. For more information, contact Taro Kodama at 808-623-2997 or via e-mail.
