Pond Builders Aid Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation

Friday, July 10, 2009, 2:00 p.m., EDT

Several New Jersey and Pennsylvania pond builders teamed up to benefit the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer. Together, they are hosting a pond tour on Aug. 1 to raise money for the nonprofit organization, which funds pediatric cancer research.

The inaugural “Alex’s Lemonade Pond Tour…A Pond Tour for the Cure” is set to take place in southern New Jersey and southeast Pennsylvania. Local companies hosting the tour include Aqua Scapes of the Delaware Valley of Warrington, Pa.; Aquatic Connections by George of Trevose, Pa.; Cedar Run Landscapes of North Wales, Pa.; James Ponds of Doylestown, Pa.; Laurel Oak Garden Center of Marlton and Medford, both in New Jersey, and Splash of Natural of Mt. Laurel, N.J.

During the tour, host companies’ customers will open their homes for tour participants to view water features of various types and sizes. The tour includes 24 locations — 14 in Pennsylvania and 10 in New Jersey.

All of the funds raised from ticket sales and corporate sponsorships will go to the foundation. Some of the locations will host Alex’s Lemonade Stands to further benefit the foundation.

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott. Scott sold lemonade for pediatric cancer research until her death at age 8 in 2004. Individuals and organizations across the country host Alex’s Lemonade Stands to help beat childhood cancer one cup at a time.

Jerry Lister, director of Aqua Scapes of the Delaware Valley, said the pond tour offers participants the opportunity to support a good cause and to spend time with family and view unique water features. He said he hopes the tour will attract 250 to 300 participants.

“Our ultimate goal is to take this to a national level and try to raise as much money as we can for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation,” Lister said. Organizers plan to present a check to Liz and Jay Scott, Alex’s parents, on Aug. 8. For more information, visit www.alexslemonade.org.

As one of the organizers of the Alex's Lemonade Pond Tour, I would like to report that it was extremely successful. We raised over $8,200 for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation in our inaugural year. For more information, go to www.LemonadeBlog.com. Both Liz & Jay Scott (Alex's parents) were grateful and appreciative of our donation.
