Professional Landcare Network’s Certification Program Undergoes Rebranding
Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, 8 a.m., EST
Beginning January 2010, individuals certified by the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET), a trade group in Herndon, Va., will be referred to as Landscape Industry Certified. The new name consolidates specialties of the green industry under one umbrella and does away with acronyms, such as CLT (Certified Landscape Technician) and COLP (Certified Ornamental Landscape Professional). According to PLANET, the universal title of Landscape Industry Certified is meant to clearly communicate a professional’s certification to the end user.
“Our ultimate goal is to create a demand by consumers for Landscape Industry Certified individuals,” said Joel Hafner, chairman of PLANET’s international certification council. “This rebranding effort demonstrates growth in our industry and in our careers.”
The Canadian Nursery Landscape Association also adopted the new name for its professional development program.
The PLANET certification program seeks to align itself with the certification industry’s best practices as defined by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies’ standards.
