The contractors are organizing a pond tour on July 10 to raise money for the nonprofit organization, which funds pediatric cancer research.
The second annual “Alex’s Lemonade Pond Tour...A Pond Tour for the Cure” is set to take place in southern New Jersey and southeast Pennsylvania. The local companies organizing the tour are Lentzcaping Inc. of Warrington, Pa., Cedar Run Landscapes of North Wales, Pa., James Ponds of Doylestown, Pa., Don Borden RLA of Doylestown, Pa., and Laurel Oak Garden Center of Marlton, N.J.
Al Lentz, vice president of Lentzcaping Inc., said Alex's Lemonade Pond Tour serves a dual purpose -- to educate the public about what they can do in their own back yard in terms of water gardening and to help a good cause. During Alex's Lemonade Pond Tour, customers from each of the host companies will open up their homes for pond tour participants to view water features of various types and size.
A total of 20 locations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey are included in Alex's Lemonade Pond Tour, Lentz said. All of the funds raised from ticket sales will go to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer. In addition, three of the host companies, Lentzcaping, Laurel Oak and Cedar Oaks, will host Alex’s Lemonade Stands to further benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer.
Last year’s inaugural event raised $8,200. Lentz said organizers hope to exceed that amount this year.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer emerged from the frontyard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott. Scott sold lemonade for pediatric cancer research until her death at age 8 in 2004. Individuals and organizations across the country host Alex’s Lemonade Stands to help beat childhood cancer one cup at a time.
