Laguna Founder Rolf C. Hagen Dies
Rolf C. Hagen Inc. founder and chairman Rolf C. Hagen passed away Saturday.
Rolf C. Hagen, founder of Rolf C. Hagen Inc., passed away Saturday at his home in Montreal. Rolf C. Hagen Inc. is the parent company of water garden product manufacturer and distributor Laguna.

Hagen died “suddenly yet peacefully,” according to an obituary in the Montreal Gazette. He was in the company of his wife Marianne and his grandson Justin when he passed.

Hagen was born in 1932 in a small resort town on the Baltic Sea north of Hamburg. He was one of 10 children.

After his schooling, Hagen entered into an apprenticeship with a fish and pet food industry importer and exporter in Hamburg, Germany. Hagen developed a network of industry contacts and moved to Montreal, Quebec, where he founded the Hagen group of companies as a one-man, import-export operation in 1955. The company grew into an leading global manufacturer and distributor of pet care products.

Hagen was inducted into the American Pet Products Association Hall of Fame in June 1999, and he earned the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Pet Industry Distributors Association.
