Kaytee is marking National Wild-Bird Feeding month with in-store and online promotions.
With February designated as National Wild Bird-Feeding Month, Kaytee of Chilton, Wis., plans to commemorate the month with in-store and online promotions. As the coldest month of the year, February was selected to encourage individuals to provide food, water and shelter to help wild birds survive.

“Our hope is that people will understand the importance of wild bird-feeding this time of year,” said Rebecca Propson, marketing manager for Kaytee. “We do just that by educating and offering incentives to encourage both birder hobbyists and new users to feed wild birds.”

For example, Katyee is offering a $5 discount on participation fees for the 25th anniversary of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Project FeederWatch program (www.feederwatch.org), in which people across the country count birds at backyard feeders and other locales during the winter months. For a $15 base fee, participants receive a research kit, including bird identification poster, bird-watching calendar, data sheets and return envelopes.

Kaytee also is inserting about 50,000 flyers into bags of wild bird food promoting the Kaytee Wild Bird Photo Calendar Contest, which begins Feb. 1, 2012. The company is stickering packages of Kaytee Wild Bird Food (20-pound packages), Kaytee Songbird Blend (7-pound packages) and Kaytee Birders’ Blend (8-pound packages) with the flyers inside.

Kaytee will select 36 submitted images, and then let the public vote online June 19-26 for their favorite images. Winners will receive various prizes, including a year’s free wild bird food.
