Industry Events Address Concerns About Reduced Water Supply
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Mike Garcia
Concerns about our water supply continue to permeate the industry. At two recent events, the news was the same: We are in trouble with respect to our water supply.
At the Metropolitan Water District event, the only answer they seemed to have was to stop using water. At the California Landscape Contractors Convention, speakers refreshingly highlighted more answers than questions.
Both groups agreed that rainWater harvesting is not the wave of the future, it is the face of today. Many manufacturers provide pond builders with the tools we need to move forward and the information we need to keep us busy with this technology.
What good is it, though, if we save rainwater but need an energy-guzzling pump to draw the water out? Owners might save on the water bill, but their electric bills will go up. In response, manufacturers are racing to produce a 12-volt pump designed to handle this problem. How about the first flush problem? This too is being addressed with technology coming from Australia.
What are you hearing about addressing water supply concerns? What are your solutions?
