| (Courtesy of Sandy Meyer/BowTie Inc.) | As a follow up to my last blog, I spoke with Eric Triplett with Exotic Waterscapes in Yucaipa, California. Eric said that at times he makes a surgeon’s pay. How can this be?
Through the skillful installation of low-voltage lighting. Eric no longer leaves money on the table with respect to this high demand landscape offering. Eric has a backlog of former clients that he intends to contact. The few he already contacted are happy to have him install lights since they have trusted him in the past.
How did Eric get started? He did his homework on what makes a great low-voltage fixture, and it goes beyond just the fixture. Eric asked questions such as: How long is the warranty? How long has the manufacturer been in business? What do other contractors say about their experiences with a particular brand of fixtures?
After deciding on a brand, Eric contacted the manufacturers' rep. The manufacturers' rep came out to Eric’s job site at night and helped Eric design on the spot. The manufacturers' rep left flags with the name of each fixture on the flag. He wrote down how many fixtures the site needed and gave the count to Eric, who then gave a price for the fixtures. Eric gave the client the overall bid, and the client told Eric to proceed with the project.
This is a simple way of adding to your bag of offerings and to help you make it through the recession. Many manufacturers now offer LED lights. There are pros and cons to consider, and the choice is yours.
