Long-distance Weekend Job

Friends flew me to New York to help them design their shady new back yard.

The finished back yard with the fountain as the focal point.

We got an early start Saturday morning by visiting a big-box store and several garden centers and nurseries. One water garden center had fish and water plants but no fountains.

We visited a smaller nursery that had plants, but the pond deptartment was a remnant of an attempt at water gardening in the distant past. In the end, we purchased a fountain from the big-box store.

In two days we completed the small back yard, making the fountain the focal point. My friends wanted a water feature, and the fountain represents a great start.

They already fell in love with the yard, and they are talking about upgrading to a water garden. I wonder if I will find what I need for a water garden in Long Island. Do pond and water garden nurseries keep a fully stocked water garden department in your area?
