| With limited budget left for a water feature, I developmed this simple design. |

| One way I market my business is by photographing and posting my water feature projects on Facebook, YouTube and my company website. | I recently landscaped a backyard, and after convincing the homeowners that their yard would not be a true native garden without a water feature, the homeowners decided to incorporate a small water feature. Because most of the budget was allotted to the landscape, I came up with a very simple water feature designed to feed wildlife, produce great sound and fall on the less-expensive side.
The water feature consisted of about five pieces of flagstone that were drilled through the middle and stacked on each other from largest to smallest. It took three men about three hours to install the almost pyramid-shaped water feature.
After digging a shallow hole, we installed an Ecorain rainwater harvesting tank on the liner, a pump and an autofill. We stacked the flagstone on top of the tank and hid the bottom with gravel.
During construction, I took pictures with my Android phone and uploaded them to Facebook. After completing the project, I took a video and uploaded it to YouTube and shared it on Facebook. I also included links to these sites on my company website. The result has been amazing. Am I amazed that my phone has been ringing more than usual lately? Not really. Phone ringing is directly connected to marketing. You don’t have to be a genius to work an Android phone; I am proof of that.
I have spent a considerable amount of money on marketing and my website. The result is that my phone rings, the work keeps coming in and my company is surviving in a not-so-good economic climate.
Today’s consumers still want water features. They just don’t want to pay what they used to, so we must adjust. Clients don’t mind have a smaller water feature if it will save them money. How are you adjusting to today’s new economic challenges?
