Moonlight Pond Tour Blows My Mind

Last Friday night, Eric Triplett (owner of Exotic Aquatics in Yucaipa, Calif.) hosted a Moonlight Pond Tour. I joined about 100 participants and had an amazing time at on the tour.

Even though I have organized pond tours, my concern that someone might get lost or fall into a pond has kept me from planning a nighttime tour. Eric has put on Moonlight Pond Tours for more than a decade. He even owns the trademark to the name.

When I asked Eric about business, he told me it is booming. Like me, he decided to not participate in the recession. One way he accomplishes this is through the Moonlight Pond Tour.

I was amazed at what we saw. Eric clearly builds relationships with his clients.

We were greeted by some of the friendliest homeowners I've ever met. One block featured three water features at three different homes. Neighbors talk and the good news spreads quickly.

We saw a variety of pondless and hybrid ponds as well on the tour. The features included gravel and measured several feet deep, and Eric devised a system to put oxygen in the gravel through a PVC grid. The water was so clear that it looked like gin!

One pond had fire coming out of the water, which I had never seen before. It was not a gas pipe just above the waterline but an actual fire coming from below the waterline.

Other pond features that excited Moonlight Pond Tour participants were a bubble machine and a sunken ship. The ship measures 7 feet across, is full of holes and includes cannons sticking out the sides.

The ponds featured a variety of filtration and demonstrated that there might not be one right way to do all the ponds. Each pond used a variety of hardware to accomplish its purpose.

Despite the rainy weather, Eric sold about 70 tickets for the Moonlight Pond Tour. The money collected from ticket sales went to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Eric has worked with them for 7 years now.

Eric always signs off his e-mails with “Touching People's Lives With Water.” I can see why.

Eric has always been a valued contributor to this industry and everything he does reflects his deep found passion for moving water. I have had the priviledge of knowing Eric for many years and I can say this...if any of you have not had the opportunity to see some of Eric's work or attend one of his events or seminars, please do so and you too will be touched by his innovative spirit.
