Rainwater Harvesting Presents Opportunities
By diversigying into rainwater harvesting, I continue to find work despite these recessionary times.
The city of Los Angeles is not alone in teach residents about ways to conserve water. Stakeholders and policymakers recently were invited to attend an informational meeting about rainwater harvesting.

About 200 people attended the meeting. There were about 198 architects and two contractors. I was the only contractor with a crew who showed up; the other contractor is a lone ranger who does his own design work.

I ran out of business cards, because the architects did not know who to call for installation when their projects are ready for bidding. I will be first on their list.

There is no way I could possibly handle all these opportunities, once it the work commences. Too much work in these recessionary times? Yes. How? By thinking out of the box and diversifying into things no one else is doing.

Have you looked into rainwater harvesting? Have you installed any of these systems yet? How do you learn what to do? If you get a call for this type of work, do you turn it away?

Rainwater harvesting has a very small learning curve if you already build ponds. If you are a landscaper who is familiar with irrigation, you are all the more better off.

Do not attempt to speak with a customer about rainwater harvesting unless you really know what you are talking about. Consider installing a few rainwater harvesting systems at cost for relatives and friends. This will give you confidence and experience. (Remember when you installed your very first pond in your own front yard, or for your mom?) What path will you take to learn rainwater harvesting?
