Stanley, Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion & we welcome any constructive critisism. Although Backyard Getaway has received rave reviews for our work & has been featured in publications like Country Decorating's Annual Water Gardens magazine, Backyard Getaway's main goal is to create features that please our customers & best fit their needs & lifestyle. If you would have read the article you would have seen that the pond took two months because we only worked on it in our spare time while not creating features for our customers. If I had to sit down & calculate actual time spent I would say it took about one week. The Florida fieldstone came out of the ground at the location so it is very natural to the area. Of course Fl fieldstone would not be natural to Pennsylvania. We believe in reuse & recycle so why would we throw away perfectly good rock. As for the cost of $30,000 that would have been the total if rock would have to be purchased. As a certified aquascaper you are required to install cookie cutter style water gardens. This is a Koi pond that was created for maximum health of the Koi. including deep straight sides, no rock inside the pond and a top notch filtration system. I understand that the economy is bad & everyone is struggling but as a professional installer I can't ever imagine making unprofessional negative comments towards a fellow pond installer. The designer showcase is open to any professional installer to submit their work. Although, Backyard Getaway did not submit on our own, we were asked by Water Garden News to submit one of our creations , I am sure they would welcome your submission as well.

Even though I can see the owner put "love" into this feature, does it truly portray a professionally installed water feature? I don't mean to sound harsh, but it looks more like the kind of ponds we regularly tear out... Very unnatural looking stone work and limestone at that! And 3 guys working 2 months, $11,000 in materials and the overall cost is $30,000! That comes out to $19/ man hr! How's that for a "professional" installation? I feel this article puts a black eye on my profession!
