Colored and LED lights increasingly take over trade show and showroom space. Pond professionals offer these predictions to forecast what the pond lighting market might look like in the next few years.

(Courtesy of EasyPro Pond Products) | Costs lower for LEDs. “The cost of LEDs is going to continue to drop,” said Brandon Dwyer, vice president at Atlantic Water Gardens in Mantua, Ohio. “It will be much more affordable for homeowners to purchase solid or color-changing LED lights.” - LEDs surpass halogens. Jerry Goldberg, national sales manager for Aqua Control in Spring Valley, Ill., and Dave Kelly, vice president of product development at Aquascape in St. Charles, Ill., each said LEDs will replace halogens in the near future. Goldberg said he expects to spend the next couple of years educating people about LEDs and that the changeover cycle will happen within three years.

Jeffrey Dross, the corporate director of education and industry trends at Kichler Lighting in Cleveland, said outdoor designs will trend toward the look of simpler Japanese gardens with lighting following suit. This does not mean more or fewer lights, he said, but very careful light placement.
